                                          ..Exercise Class for HIV+ Men

 

The class is designed for men who have never exercised before or who have been away from exercise for some time and would like to restart a program

WHERE: The GymSF, 2275 Market Street (midway between Church and Castro Muni stops). A newly remodeled, non-chain gym with a very diverse clientele and a friendly staff that really cares. 2nd floor (no elevator). The first session will be offsite followed by six sessions at the gym.

WHEN: Dates vary each month. Classes are held any month there are 6 participants enrolled. Clasess for October 2005 will be Mondays and Fridays from 11:30AM until 1:00PM. (Oct. 7, 10, 14, 17, 21 and 24) A second class on different days will open if there is interest.

WHO IS IT FOR?: The class is for hiv+ men who are exercise beginners or who would like to restart an exercise program after being away for some time. The class will be taught at the beginner's level with a non-judgmental approach. More emphasis will be placed on exercising to feel better rather than looking better.

COST: $ 5.00/session for The Gym SF members, $ 10.00/session for non-members

CLASS SIZE: The class will be limited to 6-8 participants.

HOW TO ENROLL: Send an email to me with your phone number and the best time to reach you. I will talk with each of you individually to discuss your fitness goals, experience, concerns, etc. I will invite you to the class if there is space available and your fitness needs are similar to others already enrolled in the class.

CONTENT:

1) Initial phone or coffee meeting on a personal basis

2) First session held in a non-gym environment to learn about fitness, exercise safety, nutrition, hiv issues (working with fatigue, neuropathy, etc.) and to fill out paperwork.

3) 5 sessions of hands-on instruction to learn 9 basic exercises, stretches, use of treadmill and bicycles. Emphasis is on exercise safety, progressing at your own pace and exercising for your personal enjoyment.

During the sessions, I will do my best to give you the knowledge and ability to begin and maintain your own exercise program. My website contains additional information on my style, places I train, etc. I would gladly answer any questions by email or phone. I work full-time at night and also train up until 2PM most days, so I am fairly busy, but I will make my best effort to return your phone call or answer your email.
